Short answer: in our October 30, 2026 check of 2,860 IHG reward nights, points went furthest in Asia and North America, with a median of $62.40 per 10,000 points in Greater China, $61.40 in India and Southeast Asia and $59.90 in North America. They were weakest in the UK and Ireland ($50.70), Türkiye ($50.20) and Australia ($52.40), and in Ireland alone the median was just $44.00.
That gap is worth about $10 for every 10,000 points you redeem. It also decides whether points beat buying a room with cash: 94.1% of North American nights were worth more than $50 per 10,000 points, against 54.3% in the UK and Ireland.
Value by region
$50 per 10,000 points is roughly what points cost when IHG sells them at 0.5 cents each, so it is a useful line between a decent and a weak redemption.

Luxury hotels by region
Many people save points for one big luxury stay. We grouped InterContinental, ANA InterContinental, Kimpton, Regent, Six Senses, Vignette Collection and HUALUXE nights by region. This is a brand group, not a rating. Our brand guide shows the same table in euros.
| Region | Nights | Median points per night | Median value per 10k |
|---|---|---|---|
| India and Southeast Asia | 14 | 33,000 | $63.20 |
| Greater China | 59 | 36,000 | $62.00 |
| Continental Europe | 63 | 57,000 | $55.80 |

| UK and Ireland | 27 | 101,000 | $54.60 |
A luxury night in the UK and Ireland cost a median 101,000 points, about three times the 33,000 to 36,000 in Asia's cheaper markets, and returned less per point. North American luxury nights were the best value at $66.40.
What this means for your points
- If you are choosing where to spend points, Asia and the US get you the most for them. A median night in China cost 14,000 points.
- In the UK, Spain, Türkiye and Portugal, 43.3% to 52.5% of nights were under $50 per 10,000 points, and in Ireland 81.2% were. Check the cash price before you redeem; paying cash and keeping points for a US or Asia trip is often the better move.
- Do not buy points for a UK or Ireland trip without checking the exact hotel and date first. 45.1% of UK and Ireland nights were under the 0.5 cent purchase price.
- Value varies a lot by city inside a country. Our value by city guide ranks all 59 cities in the sample.
Method
We used IHG Points Finder's live search, in USD, on Friday October 30, 2026. The main sample is one-night stays on Wednesday November 18, Saturday November 21 and Wednesday December 9, 2026, pulled 12:29 to 12:32 Dublin time: 2,860 priced nights at 1,081 hotels in 59 of the 62 featured cities (Dubai, Doha and Taipei had no comparable points prices). Countries come from each hotel's location; city searches include the wider metro area. The date check used 20 cities on 12 nights between November 3, 2026 and June 19, 2027, pulled 14:42 to 14:58. Value is cash price divided by points, times 10,000. Cash prices from other currencies are converted to USD, so exchange rates move these rankings. Prices change daily.
