IHG Points on Weekdays vs Weekends: Which Nights Cost Less, City by City

8 min read Updated 30 Oct 2026

We compared 2,902 same-hotel IHG pairs, Tuesday vs Saturday. Saturdays cost 46% more points in Tokyo and 43% more in Orlando, but 10% fewer in London.

Short answer: it depends on the city. In our October 30, 2026 check of 2,902 same-hotel pairs at 579 IHG hotels, a Saturday night cost a median 46.3% more points than the Tuesday of the same week in Tokyo and 42.9% more in Orlando, but 10.3% fewer in London and 13.8% fewer in Berlin.

What does not change much is the value. Cash prices move in the same direction as points, so in every one of the 20 cities the median value per 10,000 points on a Saturday was within about $3.50 of the Tuesday. The day you pick changes how many points you spend, not whether points are a good deal.

The overall picture

Across all 20 cities and six week pairs from November 2026 to June 2027:

MeasureTuesdaySaturday
Median points27,00030,000
Median cash$151.73$162.26
Median value per 10,000 points$56.60$56.00

The same hotel's points price changed by 20% or more between Tuesday and Saturday in 45.3% of pairs, and it was identical in only 8.8%. Saturday gave the better value in 45.3% of pairs and Tuesday in 51.7%, with 3.0% tied. A global average hides all of this, which is why the city view below is the one to use.

Weekday vs weekend points by city

Each row compares the same hotels on a Tuesday and the Saturday of that week. "Median change" is the median of each hotel's own change, so it can differ from the gap between the two median columns.

The pattern is simple. Cities that run on business travel (Berlin, London, Singapore, Shanghai, Delhi) get cheaper on Saturdays. Leisure cities (Orlando, Las Vegas, Tokyo, New York, Amsterdam) get dearer, often by a lot.

Saturdays run out first

The day also affects whether you can book with points at all. Close in, fewer hotels had a reward price on Saturdays.

From January to June 2027, 96.9% to 99.0% of hotels had a reward price on every date we checked. If you need a Saturday in the next few weeks, book it sooner.

A note on how far ahead to book

In the same pull, near-term nights gave better value than spring and summer 2027. A panel of 277 hotels priced on all 12 dates had a median of $61.80 per 10,000 points on Tuesday November 3, 2026, against $54.10 on March 16 and $54.50 on June 15, 2027. 18 of the 20 cities showed the same direction. We cannot separate the season from the lead time with one snapshot, so do not read this as "always book late". Our best time to book guide covers repricing and rebooking.

How to use this

  1. In leisure cities (Orlando, Las Vegas, Tokyo, New York, Amsterdam), move a flexible trip to weeknights and you will usually spend far fewer points.
  2. In business cities (London, Berlin, Singapore, Shanghai), a weekend city break is usually the cheaper option in points.
  3. Do not expect the value per point to change much. If a hotel is poor value on a Tuesday, it is probably poor value on Saturday too.
  4. On a 4-night stay with a US IHG Chase card, the fourth night is free. Arrange the stay so your dearest night is the fourth one. See our fourth night free guide for the numbers.

Method

We used IHG Points Finder's live search on Friday October 30, 2026, 14:42 to 14:58 Dublin time, in USD, for one-night stays in 20 cities: London, Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin, Madrid, Rome, Istanbul, Dublin, New York, Chicago, Orlando, Las Vegas, Toronto, Mexico City, Tokyo, Shanghai, Bangkok, Singapore, Sydney and Delhi. We priced six Tuesday and Saturday pairs: Nov 3 and 7, Nov 10 and 14, Dec 1 and 5, 2026, and Jan 12 and 16, Mar 16 and 20, and Jun 15 and 19, 2027. We kept a pair only when the same hotel had a points price and a cash price on both nights, giving 2,902 pairs. A separate check of 787 pairs in 54 cities, Wednesday November 18 vs Saturday November 21, 2026, gave a median value of $58.00 vs $58.60. City searches include the wider metro area. Prices change daily.
